Memphis foundation to aid Afro-American education and race relations. The Opportunity Foundation Corporation was described in 1962 by Margaret C. McCulloch (b. 1901), its founder as a "small, local trust fund established in May, 1962, primarily for the benefit of residents of Memphis and Shelby County" grantees were either individuals, for furthering their education, or "agencies or organizations of health, education or welfare for launching pilot projects or new services or improving the quality of service ..." The foundation was terminated 1974 and dispensed over $200,000. Archives consist of correspondence, 1962-76; financial statements, 1962-1976; minutes of meetings of Board of Directors, 1962-74; documents, 1962-73; academic records, proposals, and reports, ca. 1963-73; and a few pamphlets, leaflets, and clippings.
